I'd like to begin by wishing everyone a happy and healthy new year. Looking back, 2010 was a busy year at the Town Hall. Town Board members, employees and volunteers took on a number of projects aimed at improving the services we offer to Town residents. I'd personally like to thank everyone who's helping to make Spafford a better place to live. Some of the highlights of 2010 include the following:
After more than two years of negotiations, a contract has been finalized between the Town of Spafford and the Teamsters Union members of the highway department.
Updated Zoning Regulations were adopted bythe Town and put into use.
In recognition of their service to our country, the Town Board approved a property tax exemption for our Cold War Veterans. This exemption applies to veterans who served from September 2, 1945 to December 26, 1991.
In cooperation with the Skaneateles Lake Watershed Agricultural Program, drainage problems were corrected and repairs were made to the upper portion of Bacon Hill Road. These repairs protect the water quality of Skaneateles Lake and improve safety for those who travel this road.
A volunteer committee was appointed by the Town Board to review and update Spafford's sub division laws. The updated laws will soon be available for public review.
Renovations to the Town Hall, including a new Town Justice's office and bench were completed. These improvements were made possible through a grant from New York State's judicial system.
Through the support of the Town Board and the generosity of Mr. John Call, memorial plaques were purchased and inscribed with Spafford's military honor roll. These plaques will be installed at the Veterans' Memorial Park and dedicated during our 2011 Memorial Day Observance.
The Town of Spafford accomplished a lot in 2010 but there is still plenty of work to be done. The Town Board, staff and I will continue with our goal of making Spafford a place that we can be proud to call our home. That's why your input is important to us.
